AI: OpenAI 'keeping them coming'. RTZ #342
...at least 7 new major product announcements ahead, including GPT-5
OpenAI has a busy summer ahead, with potentially as many as 7 new product announcements ahead. They’re ‘keeping them coming’. And they’ll all likely be enhanced with better memory. (Update: rumblings are that OpenAI may announce their AI strategy with Search, item #2 below, on May 9th).
As I highlighted back in February, adding Memory to today’s cutting edge LLM AI models and their ChatGPT style prompt query applications, is a critical next step in these early days of the AI Tech Wave. Especially for important set of features around the ‘Agentic Workflow I addressed a few days ago. The importance of adding memory to today’s LLM AI models was my first post here at AI: Reset to Zero over 340 daily posts ago, in “Memory of a Goldfish”.
I bring this up again since OpenAI has new developments on the Memory front. As Decoder notes in “OpenAI introduces "Memory" feature for ChatGPT Plus users”:
“OpenAI has enabled the "Memory" feature for all ChatGPT Plus users, the company announced via X. Memory allows users to tell ChatGPT things they want it to remember across chats. The feature can be turned on and off in the settings.”
“To use memory, simply start a new chat and tell ChatGPT what you want it to remember. This feature is designed to extend ChatGPT's capabilities by allowing the model to retain the context of previous conversations across chats.”
“According to OpenAI, the memory feature allows ChatGPT to learn the user's preferences and style, which should further increase efficiency at work.”
“For example, ChatGPT can now remember your preferred general tone, language, or format for blog posts; your preferred programming language and frameworks for coding; or your preferred charts for monthly business meetings.”
OpenAI has a busy summer coming up, with #1, its long awaited GPT-5 potentially being launched. It’s likely to offer performance improvements of multiple times over OpenAI’s current market leading GPT-4. Following on exponentially AI Scaling Laws I’ve discussed before.
Up next, #2, its expected AI augmented Search to counter efforts by Google to do the same with its Gemini LLM AI. Not to mention #3, an impending launch of its innovative text to video Sora app, which is seeing a counter-responsive move from China.
And #4 would be its long-postponed Voice app, #5 the long-speculated about Q* project with augmented reasoning in its LLM AI products, and of course #6, a potential joint venture on an AI device with former Apple design czar Jony Ive. And of course #7, the aforementioned OpenAI Agentic Workflow productivity application.
So that’s at least 7 major OpenAI product innovations ahead. They’re in no particular chronological order, and any can come any time. In forms discussed above, or different variations.
As it remembers to add AI memory features to its core lineup. They’re ‘keeping them coming’ indeed. Stay tuned.
