Thanks for writing this, it clarifies a lot; this acqui-hire really seems like the next logical step given the HBM constraints, though the price point is wild.

Excellent breakdown of the licensing workaround. The fact that this structure has become the standard playbook (Character AI, Inflection, now Groq) says alot about how dominant players are navigating antitrust scrutiny while still consolidating talent and IP. I've worked on similar acqui hire deals where the "non-exclusive" framing was mostly theater, the acquirer still gets the core team and tech locked down. Nvidia seeing fear in Groq's roadmap is the most interesting signal here tho, inference optimization has been underpriced as a moat and Nvidia clearly doesn't wanna get caught flat-footed.
